Australia’s Soap and Cleaning Compound Manufacturing industry is scrubbing up nicely, with revenue expected to hit a sparkling $3.3 billion by 2025. That’s right—our love for bubbles, disinfectants and eco-friendly suds has fuelled a steady growth of 3.4 per cent annually over the past five years, according to a new IBISWorld report.
Post-pandemic, it’s clear Aussies aren’t just washing their hands out of good hygiene habits. The industry has lathered up success with innovations like alcohol-based hand sanitisers, hospital-grade disinfectants and even dissolvable cleaning tablets.
Laundry day has had an eco-makeover too, thanks to carbon-cutting laundry sheets that are as green as they are clean.
But it’s not all squeaky clean behind the scenes. The market’s as competitive as a detergent ad showdown, with brands battling it out over price cuts and private-label products flooding the shelves. Despite the soapy scuffles, heavyweights like Unilever Australia, DuluxGroup and Indorama Ventures Australia are holding their ground, armed with greener, smarter products.
Interestingly, nearly 80 per cent of the industry’s action is happening along the eastern seaboard—apparently, the coast really knows how to clean up.
Looking ahead, it’s clear that sustainability isn’t just a trend; it’s the future. From specialty surfactants to environmentally friendly formulas, Australia’s soap scene is proving that you can grow a billion-dollar industry one bubble at a time. Clean, green and still coming out on top—talk about washing up well.
