Manufacturing News

Solar module manufacturer Tindo Solar has announced an order of 70 of its 430-watt Walara solar panels for the East Micronesia Cable (ESM) project, with these to be used to power data cable landing stations in Nauru and Kiribati.

ESM is a 2,250 kilometre undersea data cable linking Tarawa in Kiribati, to Nauru and to Kosrae and Pohnpei  (which already has an international data connection) in the Federated States of Micronesia. It is expected to be completed by December, and is funded by the governments of Australia, the United States and Japan.

According to a statement from the company on Thursday, its procurement partner on ESM, P.R.A. Electrical, evaluated the project as requiring “high-quality solar panels with guaranteed performance and durability.”

“We make a high-quality, premium solar panel that has a 25-year product warranty and is proven in extreme weather conditions,” said Richard Petterson (pictured), CEO of Tindo.

“Our in-house engineering team is constantly upgrading and improving the panels. We are delighted that the performance and durability of our technology is recognised in other countries and is being utilised for important infrastructure, to the benefit of communities in our region.”

P.R.A. has previously supplied Tindo panels to the Japanese/Australian government-funded Humanitarian Warehouse in Tarawa, Kiribati.

Tindo was recently awarded Australian Renewable Energy Agency support worth $34.5 million under the federal government’s Solar Sunshot Program.
