Environmental technology firm completes test facility for net-zero fertiliser

Environmental Clean Technologies has completed a scaled granulation facility to support initial testing of its COLDry fertiliser, according to a company announcement on Monday.

The test facility, installed at ECT's demonstration plant in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, will produce 21 tonnes of fertiliser samples for upcoming field and laboratory trials. The installation represents a significant milestone for the COLDry fertiliser project, which is being developed through Zero Quest, a joint venture between ECT and ESG Agriculture established in December 2024.

“We are very eager to demonstrate how the granulation process integrates with our COLDry technology and are also evaluating new opportunities for intellectual property and patentability,” said ECT Chief Executive Officer John Tranfield.

The facility will support initial trials while providing ongoing research and development capabilities for new product formulations. Beyond the current testing phase, the company expects the equipment will continue to foster intellectual property advancements.

According to ECT, the current trials represent a key validation phase that will strengthen engagement with potential off-take partners and enhance product performance data to refine commercial applications. The trials will also deepen engagement with stakeholders across government, finance, research and agricultural sectors.

The next major milestone expected in coming weeks will be the production and distribution of the fertiliser granules to trial participants, with testing aligned to the second-quarter crop planting season.

ECT stated it remains committed to delivering sustainable, cost-effective solutions to the agricultural sector through its partnership with ESG Agriculture.
